The PDXplorer application allows you to view PDX packages, which are defined by the industry standard IPC-2571 (see http://webstds.ipc.org).

IPC-2571 / PDX package file format

A PDX package consists of a design's metadata (parts, BOMs, approved sources, etc.) with these items' file attachments. These elements are then compressed into a single file.

To ensure that your PDX packages can be easily transferred and used across 32b/64b operating systems and tools, we recommend that you keep the size of your PDX files under 1 GB.

The PDX file's contents can usually be examined and extracted using compressed file management tools such as WinZip and 7z. In Windows Vista (and higher), renaming the PDX package file extension from .pdx to .zip allows Windows Explorer to navigate its contents.
